Our Military and their families sacrifice a lot for the rest of us. They deserve a thank you from each and every one of us every day. However, there is one day in particular that you can use to thank those who served. Above all, how do we say thanks in a way that is meaningful? Read on and see some suggestions on how to thank our Veteran’s.
Accordingly, we’ve all heard of Veteran’s Day but what is it for? Veteran’s day, formerly began as Armistice Day in 1919 one year after the end of World War I. Additionally, Armistice day became a national holiday on November 11, 1938. It was officially changed to Veteran’s Day in 1954 to honor all who have served in US Wars. Other countries also honor their veterans who served in World War I and II on November 11th.
Just Say It
For many, just a simple thank you is enough. Saying it acknowledges their sacrifices made for our country in times of war. And, the need for them to be taken away from their families, homes, and lives. Furthermore, it means we haven’t forgotten, and we don’t take for granted those sacrifices. Thank you, Veterans, for serving our country!
Donate to Non-Profits that Benefit Veteran’s
There are many amazing non-profits to make a donation to that will help veterans. One such charity is Honor Flight Network whose mission is “To celebrate America’s veterans by inviting them to share in a day of honor at our nation’s memorials”. Likewise, Project Sanctuary has a mission focusing on mental health not only for those who have served or are serving, but for their family as well. Finally, and by no means the last, is Special Operations Warrior Foundation. This organization’s main mission is to help the children of any fallen Special Ops soldier as well as providing financial help to those Special Ops soldiers who are severely wounded, ill or injured.
Support Veteran Owned Businesses
Another great way to say thank you to a Veteran, is to support their businesses! These men and women come home, after serving their country, but still need to make a living. For that reason, here are some great places to shop to show your support! My favorite is Nine Line Apparel. Veteran founded and operated, they have quality products that help you show your patriotism. Actually, I’m wearing my favorite tee right now! GORUCK is a business founded by a Spec Ops soldier and his wife. They donate 1% of their revenue to non-profits that help those who have and still serve. Finally, Black Rifle Coffee Company, founded by a former Green Beret, this company stands by American values.
I’d love to hear from you! Who do you want to personally thank for serving? What organizations do you support? And finally, do you know of other veteran owned businesses that might be a great place to buy gifts for the upcoming holiday season? And again, THANK YOU to all who have served, who are serving, or are families of those who have or are. God Bless all of you!
